Windsurfing Saunton Sands
Saunton sands is a long flat stretch of beach in North Devon, sandwiched between the kite spot of Westward Ho! and surfing spots of Croyde & Putsborough. Saunton is a perfect location for learning to wavesail as it has forgiving, smaller waves.
Tides: -
Its best at mid/low tides as at high tide the wind is blocked by the headland to the north and you get a fair amount of shore dump that can make it tricky to get out.
Wind directions: -
A westerly wind is onshore, perfect for kiters but difficult for wavesailing, and northerly is blocked by the headland making it very gusty.
However, a north-westerly, when everywhere else in the region is onshore or offshore, Saunton is a good bet.
