Windsurfing Bigbury Bay

Bigbury bay sits between Bantham, a popular kite and surf spot, and the iconic Burgh Island. Bigbury is on the south coast of Devon, between Exeter and Plymouth. Bigbury offers some incredible port-tack wavesailing conditions, and in a large swell with wind funneling down the valley from the south-east, east or north-east, Bigbury is epic!

The waves start breaking at Bantham and peel across the enormous bay all the way to Bigbury Beach. You can also sail here west to north-west at mid to high tide, but the wind is more gusty because of Burgh Island.

Waves here can get huge but this is still a good spot for intermediates on a flat day, just beware of the tides.

North-east to south-east wind funnels down the valley                                               for great port tack wavesailing. Waves can get mast high                                           on a big swell but works also on smaller days.

North-west to west will offer good starboard tack riding.                                            Beware of the gusts, the outgoing tides, and the rocks                                                that appear either side of the bay as the tide heads out.                                              Try to stay inside of the peninsula and the island if you                                              are unfamiliar with the spot.
