Windsurfing Exmouth - Duck Pond
Exmouth Duck pond is neither a pond nor can I say I have ever seen a duck there. It is a great flat water spot for kitesurfing and windsurfing alike. This is where we run our windsurfing lessons, for beginners and intermediates. It is also a great spot for freestyle and is closest location to university.
Tides: -
The duck pond only works around 2 hours either side of high tide, any other time it is empty of water
Wind directions: -
A north westerly wind works best for the Duck pond as the wind travels down the estuary
Northerly works well but can be slightly gusty due to the land.
A westerly can work but tends to be gusty as the wind comes over the hills
Rigging and Launching:
For beginners its best to sail by the club house at higher tides, under the instruction of the guys from Liquid Motion
More experienced windsurfers can launch from the slipway, with the trench being perfect for freestyle. Just be aware the tide rips out if you start to lose wind strength.
