Apart from our weekend away for the SWA event in Nottingham, it's all been a bit quiet on the windsurfing front so far in 2015 while we've waited for the weather to become slightly more tolerable (frostbite is no fun). That all changed on Saturday though, when we took seven intrepid members down to Exmouth to officially kick off the year's lessons at the Duckpond.
We arrived around 10:30 and were straight away confronted by the minor problem of there being absolutely no water on the duckpond... You could almost walk over to Dawlish it was so low! After some frantic tide checking, we found that George hadn't actually screwed up his tides (as some nay-sayers were very quick to suggest!), but that it was just a serious case of neap tides. Unperturbed though, we proceeded to rig our kit, don our wetsuits and carry everything on the long walk down to the water
(Next year's Captain Sam Chapman managing to combine weight training with cardio... Gains!!!)
Once we were out on the water, the wind was perfect for the mix of beginners and intermediates that we had, and in the gusts some of us were just about getting planing! Meanwhile, Vice Windsurf Captain Jo Wright was doing a marvellous job as 'shoreside manager' looking after the rest of the kit:
After we'd finished on the water and eventually carried everything back to the Liquid Motion centre we hopped back on the train and headed straight to the Impy for a well deserved lunch and a pint while watching the Rugby.
Sun, wind, pub lunch and even a bit of water after we searched hard enough! The first lesson of the year has gotten us seriously excited about what's to come... Keep an eye out for more lessons as well as the SWA nationals over Easter!
